You Are the Light of the World
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden..” Matthew 5:14
Jesus says, “You are the light of the world” to His followers as part of the Sermon on the Mount. When I read or hear this statement one of my first thoughts goes to the imagery of a little boy or girl singing “This Little Light of Mine.” The song goes on to say “Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.” That is exactly what Jesus is imploring us to do when He makes that statement. I don’t know about you, but this can be a difficult statement to accept. And I think that it is because oftentimes we surely do not feel like the “light of the world.” But if Jesus said that about you and I it must be true, right.
I believe it could be a little easier for us to view ourselves as the “light of the world” if we begin to see ourselves more through the eyes of God. God sees us as His beloved children. Yes, we make mistakes, but He loves us unconditionally, just as we continue loving our children even when they mess up.
God is Love!
God sees our future and all the possibilities that lay ahead for us. He has great plans for you and I, just like we have great plans for our own children. You can rest assured that God’s plans for us are great, and they will always involve us going to higher levels and a greater connectedness with Him.
God is love, and He loves the entire world. God’s great desire is that everyone would be drawn to Him. That is where you and I come in to play. The “light” of Jesus that is within us, is designed to draw people to Him through us.
In all that you do, let God lead the way!
Pray, Meditate and Remember…
When we accept the responsibility of being a representative for God and that we are called to be the “light of the world,” we can surely experience more fulfillment in our own lives. We will have more joy and more peace, because we will be living with more purpose and power. His power.
Now, keep in mind, I do not want anyone to dismiss the importance of living with purpose. I think most of us realize that this is important for us to live a happy and fulfilling life, but so often we do not give enough attention to it or even know where to begin living with purpose. That’s why I believe it all comes back to our ongoing relationship with the One who created us. God really does have great plans for His children.
Do not worry if you feel unworthy or unqualified for this calling. None of us really are. But God qualifies those that He calls. That is you and me.
I encourage everyone to consider the fact that you are the light of the world, so please embrace it.
