Holidays For Stress Management
People say they are looking forward to their holiday to take things easy and relax but find they spend most of their time worrying about something or someone at work.
'I just can't seem to switch off' they say. 'Anxieties about work stay with me. I just don't seem to be able to relax.'
Does this happen to you too?
If so, you have to decide: will you let the worry continue gnawing away inside you, or will you take it out and 'knock it on it's head'?
Imagine taking out the pain, the anxiety, the tension, the gnawing feeling and noticing what it looks like and then knock it, or squeeze it, make it smaller so you can just throw it away, or at least it won't take up so much of your time and energy, so it can't bother you any more.
If you feel it again then just take a deep breath into where it is and as you breathe out let out the feeling with your breath.
Holidays are time for renewal and re-charging your batteries. A time to try something new, to let go of some of your misconceptions about yourself. If there is something you would love to do or try, holidays are an ideal time to have a go.
Maybe you want to try to bungee jump or deep sea diving; painting a picture or building a giant sandcastle. It's a time to connect again with your inner child and have some fun too!!
Time to lie on the beach, relax, perhaps, and dream of how life could be if it was perfect; if you had time in the evenings and weekends to spend with your family and friends or in your community or just by yourself. Time to do things you love to do, without the bleep or mobile phone, without stress of targets and ward rounds, just time to breathe and enjoy life again.
Of course when you come home from your holiday you need to put some of your plans into action and you will be able to do so, if you decide the first step, you will start to make a difference to your life. You can start to find the perfect balance you would love to have.
