Cleaning Up Your Life With Yoga

Imagine that it is Saturday, June 2nd, 2012. You are taking Michelle Phillips Essential Basics class at Yoga Pura.

She begins class by telling us that we will be exploring the concept of Sauca or cleanliness throughout class.

As you continue to sit there and listen to my words you realize that this yoga class is going to have lots of twists and side bends.

Perhaps, you don’t realize it yet, but in a moment...

You will find yourself lying on the floor with a bolster underneath your lower back.
Michelle will invite you to straighten your legs.
As you do so press through the soles of your feet as if they were firmly planted on the ground.

In this moment, if you’re anything like me, you’ll feel a release in your hip creases.

An awakening, an opening is occurring.

Class continues...

As you can imagine, Michelle has led us through a variety of twists and side bends.

Now imagine that you are me for a moment.

Just notice yourself at the top of your mat in Mountain Pose.
Feel your feet grounding down into the floor.

And as you do so notice, just notice how you’ve found that “sweet spot”.

You’ve found that place where you feel solid and connected.
You can stand tall and know that “You shall not be moved” from this place.
This is your home, this is where you belong.

Go now deep within yourself, to the very center of yourself, to the source of your power.

Allow yourself to be open to that power that is within you, standing tall in Mountain Pose.

Let yourself become more and more aware of how you can take this power with you, throughout the rest of class and your entire life.

Occasionally you hear...

“I am deeply connected to the earth, expanding into the heavens and radiating from the core of my being.”

Class is unwinding now...

Picture yourself in Parivritta Marichyasana or Marichi Twist.

For the first time in a long time you can feel your foot firmly grounded on the floor beneath you.
Again, you can experience that power within you.
From now on you will allow yourself to Be this power in all ways, always.
